Only a couple weeks left in Women’s History Month! Today we inch closer to our present day squad by looking back on the years 2005-2014…

  • We started the decade off by practicing and hosting games at Crossroads and the Dump. Moving into the 2010s, we started gradually shifting over to playing at our present day complex in Cottage Grove
  • Sometime between 2002-2004, Madison’s first high school girls team started up; Madison Eastside Militia
  • Militia were coached by players and alums of the WWRFC and WRC (Casey Shearing, Dan Jensen, and Sam White to name a few). The Eastside Militia were a starting point for many future WWRFC players!
  • We held our first Chili Cook Off in 2007 which has now become our largest fundraiser!
  • Also in 2007 we went to Seattle for the D1 Challenge Match against Emerald City Mudhens
  • Briefly went down to D2 status in 2008 before being promoted back up to D1 in 2009 to fill gaps in the Midwest when the WPL was formed
  • In 2011 we self-relegated back down to D2
  • D2 Midwest Runners Up in 2011 and 2014
  • A number of players during this decade also played for Midwest Senior and U23 teams, including: Kelly Clerkin, Laura Hanks, Sue Hanson, Nicole Helmer, Jackie Limberg, Katie Meyer, Maggie Perdzock, and Meaghan White
  • Coaches throughout this time included: Luke Milligan, Dani Speidel, Bill Peterik, Vince Vogelsang, Kyle Malaney, Kelly Clerkin, Elina Cilliers, Bob Jafferis, and Kim Distin

Slowly but surely WWRFC started climbing up and up the D2 ladder, all the while developing high-level rugby players and giving back to the community and next generation of rugby players. Onto 2015 and a pretty good lookin’ trophy…
