The first stop on our Women’s History Month Tour is WWRFC from 1975-1984!

  • Our first game was played in April 1975 at the Big Ten Tournament. At this time, we were affiliated with the UW, but later separated.
  • Our home field for many years was the field behind Pitcher’s Pub located off the beltline – a far cry from our clubhouse today!
  • In 1979 we finished as National Runner Up, losing to Florida State.
  • Also in 1979, we had SEVEN players make the national team, including Nancy “Red” Thorne Cahill.
  • From 1981-2001, WWRFC was coached by Lisa Riehl

An exciting decade and the genesis of our team! We wouldn’t exist today if not for the amazing players that paved the way for us back then. Thank you for creating a home for rugby here in Madison!
